We're looking for an experienced and versatile editor and calendaring manager to plan, organize, and maintain a complex online programming schedule for the Front Page of Yahoo! You will work on our successful Today module, helping us to program packages for the largest audience on the Web.

The Planning Manager will work closely and collaboratively with front page programmers and producers, as well as sales and marketing, to provide the best possible combination line-up for our users on a daily basis. He or she will also pay close attention to statistical trends and will analyze data to provide editorial insights.

The ideal candidate will have a feel for what works on the Web, a thorough grasp of the competitive landscape and a passion for news, entertainment, and popular culture. You should be flexible, quick-thinking, energetic, efficient, and able to work independently under pressure while maintaining attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal skills are a must, as this position requires interacting with fellow editors and employees throughout Yahoo!

Responsibilities

- Develop and maintain extensive front page editorial budget for Yahoo! - Ensure Yahoo’s home page has the correct “mix” of content, on both the current site and the upcoming schedules; proactively suggest and develop coverage plans - Coordinate cross-functional calendars and communication for a variety of internal/external activities across the Yahoo! network

- Be on top of the big stories: Assist managing editor in selecting the important “must-have” stories of the day

- Craft twice-daily editorial budgets, week-ahead editorial budget, and quarterly editorial calendar of major events

- Develop and work on various special projects, taking ownership of them from conception to execution

Requirements

- BA/BS, or equivalent, and 5+ years of experience in an online media environment

- Passion for following popular culture, news events, and buzz-worthy issues

- Must be detail-oriented. Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills are required. - Experience in relationship-building and collaboration in a cross-functional team comprised of diverse personalities and skill sets is essential

- Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel

- Ability to perform calmly under a high stress/deadline-driven environment

- Ability to quickly achieve familiarity with new computer programs/systems a plus

- You must enjoy working in a close team environment. A positive attitude and professional demeanor, along with the flexibility to work in a rapidly changing environment is required. This job may require extended hours. It will be based in Sunnyvale, CA.
