2>Serving the people of Southwestern Alaska, the Yukon-Kuskokwim Hospital is a 50-bed general acute care medical facility. Fully accredited by JCAHO, services include adult med/surg, pediatrics, obstetrics, emergency room, as well as outpatient family medicine clinics, pharmacy, lab, and imaging. 


The Clinical Instructor (CI/RN) works alongside Supervisor/Instructors and Clinical Instructors in the joint role of training and managing Community Health Aide/Practitioners (CHA/Ps) and village clinic staff. In this role, you will need to be an educator, using your clinical knowledge, skills and abilities to evaluate and train both Supervisor/Instructors and CHA/Ps. Your management skills will be put to use in managing village clinic staff and developing their skills both in their specific jobs and as members of YKHC and Village Operations. On occasion, your skills as an RN will be required while on-site in support of patient care. The CI/RN needs to have excellent cross-cultural skills and good adaptability, and be able to work in diverse environments, both under pressure and in situations requiring long-term planning and development. This is a position for a person who enjoys interacting with others and yet who is able to complete assignments independently.

  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, QI/QA programs, and safety standards.

  • Must be willing and able to travel by small plane in sub-arctic conditions throughout the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta region in Southwest Alaska.

  • Performs post session learning needs utilizing the Community Health Aide/Practitioner Manual in conjunction with Standing Orders. Adheres to the CHAP Certification Board standards.

  • Cooperates with Supervisor Instructors (Sis) and Training Center staff to evaluate completed Patient Encounter Forms for compliance with standards.

  • Works with SIs to increase and maintain their clinical skills.

  • Inspects and verifies pharmacy, supplies and equipment by performing regular inventories of clinic pharmacy and supplies and ordering medication, supplies and equipment as required.

  • Inspects and verifies the safety of the clinic's daily operation and performs and documents safety inspections as required.

  • Prepares and submits monthly reports to the Field Supervision Coordinator and to other agencies as appropriate.


  • RN, BSN preferred

  • Two years of positive work history as RN with clinical experience working with pediatric and adult population. CHA experience a plus.

  • Current ETT certification. EMT I Certification preferred. Must clear a background check.

  • Must be intermediate level or better with Microsoft WORD and email. Must be proficient with RPMS, Excel and Telehealth within 6 months of hire.

  • Will have management responsibility for between 2 and 7 village clinics and village staff.
